A proposito di vintage - About vintage

So even this year, specially here in the north of Italy, cold has arrived, but I'm not disappointed at all! I hear often that there are two kind of people, summer people and winter people, well, if it's true I definitely belong to the second category: I love colors of the cold months, winter fashion and the holiday season, maybe because I was born in autumn?
If I think about winter the first garment that comes in my mind is coat, a good wool coat to worm in...

For months, considering the upcoming winter, I had in mind to look for a vintage coat from the 40s; the search hasn't been easy, there was a few features that my dream coat had to:
- made from 100% wool
- have a neutral but not dark color
- have a faux fur collar.

The first requirement was not so difficult to find, especially in a vintage coat, the second neither, but satisfying the third was a bit hard: in that time the use of real fur was more common than faux ones (which however exist from the 20s).
After many days of hard search, when I was nearly convinced that my dream coat didn't exist at all, I arrived at the uk eshop "My Vintage": here I found my coat, it's a swagger style coat in particular, with a straight cut and knee lenght, but actually during 1940s there were so many style of coats (trench, princess, box).

But let's move on to the event I joined this time and to the outfit chosen for this occasion. Militalia is, needless to say, a military exhibition, and a part of it is dedicated to wii reenacments, a sphere
that obviusly fascinates me!
The dress is probably on of my best bargain, it's made of satin, in this marsala color I love and has
a matching vest underneeth, the only missing thing is, sadly, the belt...but the beautiful plated skirt
makes me forget this little lack!

Pleated style was a very common in the post wartime when restrictions end

You probably remember the handbag (I posted about it here), the brooch is an original 1940s piece,
the suede gloves are vintage too, they are so precious to me that I wear them in few occasions for fear of ruining them! This is, however, how vintage shopping is: it's so satisfying but requires attention and dedication both before and after; since I "find out" it I could never go back, though I appreciate very much reproductions (hand made ones mostly), every single vintage piece is a precious strike, result of searches or random meeting and loves at first sight, which in every case is a unique piece and, for this reason, is important to take care of it at best. If you no longer wanted a dress, vintage would not lose its value but, in fact, the more a piece is old the more it's worth, so you can resell it and keep it "travelling". This is very poetic? Isn't it? And finally, don't forget that vintage is green because is about reusing old cloths that are not part of today's mass policies production.

Speaking of reproduction instead, my hat couldn't been ignored for sure! I admit that, since I'm not used to wear them, at the beginning I felt a bit 'weird, yet in the past every girl or woman possessed more than one to complete her look, so I wanted to wear this, the only one I own actually.

One last note, but not less important, during this day I had the pleasure to know in person a new
friend I met thanks to instagram, so we took advantage of the occasion to take some pics together. ;D
